Arrowhead: Day 2

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

I arrived at Arrowhead Bible Camp in Brackney, PA last night.  I’ll be here for the next few days helping out and hanging out.   I’ll post whenever I can and show pictures of whatever we’re up to!

Breaking the silence

Saturday, November 17th, 2007

Some of the old hymnals in my collection
It sure has been a while since I’ve written. I’m planning to come back from blogging hiatus. We’ll see how that goes.
Since I posted a section of a hymn last time I wrote (almost eight months ago), here’s another one to (book)end the silence:

Eternal Power, whose high abode
Becomes the grandeur of a God,
Infinite lengths beyond the bounds
Where stars resolve their little rounds!

There while the first archangel sings,
He hides his face behind his wings,
And ranks of shining thrones around
Fall worshiping, and spread the ground.

Lord, what shall earth and ashes do?
We would adore our Maker, too;
From sin and dust to Thee we cry,
The Great, the Holy, and the High.

Earth from afar has heard Thy fame,
And worms have learned to lisp Thy Name;
But, O! the glories of Thy mind
Leave all our soaring thoughts behind.

God is in Heaven, and men below;
Be short our tunes, our words be few;
A solemn reverence checks our songs,
And praise sits silent on our tongues.

Hymns for the use of the Methodist Episcopal Church:
Revised Edition, 1849
Number 27, L. M., Solemn reverence.

Sometimes we overflow with many words praising the nearness and love of God. At other times we are left speechless in wonder—or just wondering. And praise sits silent on our tongues.

Justin back again

Saturday, March 3rd, 2007

We enjoyed having Justin McRoberts return to our church this past weekend. If you haven’t heard Justin’s music, you should check out his website. He’s a great singer / songwriter / guitarist. His songs have melodies that get stuck in your head and lyrics with considerably more depth than most CCM. On top of that, he’s a fantastic guy personally. [end of shameless plug]

Here are a couple pics. In the first you can also see the sort of things we’re beginning to do with lights and color.  These are ETC Source 4 PAR lights using the narrow lens.  The colors are Rosco #48 Rose Purple and #93 Blue Green.

Valentine’s Day

Thursday, February 15th, 2007

I took Sharon on a pretty sweet date for Valentine’s Day.

Valentine's Reservations at White Castle

Actually, we went to Macaroni Grill. But our local White Castle was my second choice.

Oh, and it’s going to be -5 with a wind chill of -20 tonight.
