Advent video - Truth

Monday, December 17th, 2007

Thanks to Jeanine, Greg, and Fred for some great acting and funny stuff in the interrogation scene. The polygraph was made from a rock tumbler, cardboard, pieces of various electronic things, and yes, a coat hanger with a pen taped to it. ;) No hamsters were harmed in the making of this film.  The guy with the coat hanger is our senior pastor, Fred.

Advent video - Light

Saturday, December 8th, 2007

Many thanks to Don M. and the Stepping Stones Recovery Center for their help with this video!  The lighting effects on the second half were attained using a Tiffen Black Pro Mist filter, a Tiffen 812 warming filter, and 3 halogen lights without softboxes (two 600W lights aimed at the camera, and one 300w aimed at Don) .

Advent video - Love

Sunday, December 2nd, 2007

Here’s the latest installment in the advent video series… many thanks to Tanya for the on-screen talent and to Josh D for being a rockin boom operator. The story about the Salvation Army kettle thief is unfortunately true; more on that here.

Advent video 1 - Peace

Wednesday, November 28th, 2007

This is a video Eric and I put together for the first week of advent. Every year for advent, we’ve had different families or individuals come up on stage during the services, read a short explanatory paragraph and scripture passage, and light the candle for that week. It worked well, but we felt like it would cease to be special if we did it the same way every year. This year we decided to do the “reading” via video and simply have the family light the candle while the video plays. Below is the video for this week, discussing the topic of peace. (By the way, we don’t always use the traditional candle names and order. We change them to better fit with that year’s Christmas message series. That’s reflected in these videos.)

Video from Thanksgiving Eve

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

My friend Eric (our youth pastor) and I worked together on our church’s Thanksgiving Eve service. We divided it into three sections: thanksgiving in happiness, thanksgiving in the ordinary, and thanksgiving in suffering. I put together this video, which illustrates the first half of David Crowder Band’s version of “All Creatures of Our God and King,” to be used at the end of the “ordinary” section.  I think it turned out fine, although if I had more time I would have done some things differently and crafted it more.  Enjoy…
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Here’s to seeing the extraordinary in everyday life and responding in gratitude.
